More Information

These private donations allow us to build relationships and partnerships to better engage our community stakeholders and those we serve. We are involved in our communities through these collaborative efforts, and we accept volunteers from both the community and the sheriff's office. Each month and as-needed, we have outreach activities, many of which take place in low-income areas of our county. Typically, there are no costs associated with participation in our activities. We provide food, non-alcoholic drinks, child enrichment activities, mentoring programs, parent enrichment activities and law enforcement activities to build stronger connections related to great police-community interactions..

We have raised money to help persons affected by natural disasters such as Texas Hurricane Harvey. We sold barbeque dinners and accepted donations totaling $4,210.71, which we sent to the local Red Cross and the Houston, TX Red Cross). During the Alabama Hurricane Sally, we allowed local persons to drop off gift cards, cash, clothes, water and non-perishables, and then paid a local trucker to deliver those goods. We did local water distribution when the City of Waynesboro, Georgia, was without clean water for several days due to a water main break. Pepsi and Cocoa Cola donated pallets of water to us, and we delivered it to those in need. We often offer assistance with tree removal and cleanup after storms. A few years ago and at the request of the Burn Foundation of Doctor's Hospital (Augusta, Georgia), we solicited in-kind donations and cash donations to build a home for a quadriplegic and his family who suffered a catastrophic meningitis episode, whereas the father and sole provider had all four of his extremities amputated..

We spend 90% of our time and resources on the above-described activities.

We distribute funds to pay for individual expenses. For instance, if a homeless person needs lodging for the night, we contact the hotel directly and pay for the expense. If the homeless person needs food, we will either take the individual to the restaurant and pay the restaurant directly or issue them a gift card that cannot be converted to cash. If we are asked to pay a power bill or medication, we pay directly to the vendor.

In order to ensure the distributed funds are used for the intended purpose, the recipient is rarely given cash directly. If cash is disbursed, recipients are required to sign an acknowledgement orThe Sheriff Alfonzo Williams Community Foundation - THE SHERIFF ALFONZO WILLIAMS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION Sheriff Alfonzo Williams Burke County Sheriff's Office 225 Hwy. 24 South I Waynesboro, GA 30830 Phone: 706-554-2133 Fax: 706-554-3423 receipt indicating the date, purpose, amount, and recipient of funds. Our board members, their immediate relatives, and members of the committee who provide input on the type of services we will help with, are not eligible to receive funds. Our process to select recipients is very simple. Anyone who comes to our office with a verifiable need, is given some type of assistance, if it is within our purview to do so.
